Antibiotic Solutions

  • Sterilize antibiotic solutions by filtration through a 0.2 um millipore membrane.
  • Store solutions in light-tight containers.
  • Do not add tetracycline to media with magnesium salts, since magnesium ions are antagonists of tetracycline.

  • For low copy number, relaxed plasmid preparation, grow bacterial culture until it reaches OD600= 0.4, and then add chloramphenicol to final conc. of 17 ug/ml. Grow additional 12-16 h.
