Maltose is an inducer of the
lamb
gene that codes for the bacteriophage A receptor.
To induce the
lamb
gene, add 1 ml of a sterile 20% maltose solution for every 100 ml of medium.
20% Maltose Solution
Maltose
20 g
Add distilled H
2
O to make a
final volume
of
100 ml
1 M Maltose Solution
Maltose.H
2
O
36 g
Add distilled H
2
O to make a
final volume
of
100 ml
Sterilize the solution by filtration through a 0.22 um millipore membrane.
Store the sterile solution at 4
o
C.
